"It" Girl Jenine Howard

We spent some time chatting with the one of the most bomb girls on Instagram, Jenine Howard. We spoke about fashion, style, all the sauce she's been dripping on the gram; as wells as being dope in real life. But, our most important question was... "It" factor. The vibe that everyone wants but, not everyone has. The authenticity that sets one apart and allows them to shine in their own light.  Jenine, shared with us what she believes it takes to be "It" . We comprised her answers into 5 very influential quotes. See below.

How to create your "It" factor

1. Knowing who you are and not apologizing for it, makes you uniquely fashionable.

2. If you love something repeat it over and over and over. It will become your staple.

3. Your smile is your best accessory.

4. Give yourself permission to dislike a trend.

5. Great fashion is much like life. The more risks you take, the more chances of success.

The month of Capricorn

Stylist: Tameka Foster @tamekafoster  Birthdate:  January 1st Zodia: Capricorn

January ladies! Lets talk Cap-style the characteristics that are totally visible in these girls' wardrobe.

You know you're a Capricorn if in your closet is...

1.Work Clothes

Cap's are workaholics they have a designated wardrobe for work. Whatever field, they have invested in some stylish outfits that are appropriate for clients, office positions and off-site meetings.

2. Practical pieces

A cap is always prepared, wardrobe-wise, for anything that might come your way. You've likely got flats, a lightweight cardigan and a simple, well-tailored dress. These are those basic just in case items.

5. Preppy Looks

The Capricorn woman loves gold jewelry, neutral tweed, or classic suits and button up shirts. She always looks highly successful, or like she come from old money.

6. Vintage pieces

Your sign like old pieces and browsing antiques. Finding a fabulous old dress or jacket that you've incorporated into your 21st-century wardrobe. You love reinventing looks and making old eras feel current.

Cap's did we nail it?

Style Resolutions for 2018

Be a habitual offender

Marlo Hampton in YSL Nikki Swarovski boot by Saint Laurent

Marlo Hampton in YSL Nikki Swarovski boot by Saint Laurent

We didn't have to "Ask Marlo" she showed us. No more of this not repeating outfits because you wore it on the gram two weeks ago. I challenge you to wear your looks as often as you feel and make it great every time.

Be about you

Include your "It" factor in all your shopping weather its shopping high, low, or in-between. Make sure that one element that makes your style your own is not missed.

Be very clear

Never be persuaded by a friend or a sales person into buying things that are not perfect on you and for you... that includes you shape, budget and especially YOUR style.

Be realistic

How many times are you really going to wear those 3,000. Givenchy boots before the upgraded version comes out. Be conscious of trends and buy looks that will last. Stay in the game by buying high and selling low.  You are never going to recover what you paid but, if you flick-it up for social and sell fast-you can get closer to that amount than if you wait a whole season.

 Thank me Later.

Be a vibe

Create a playlist that doubles as theme music. Make sure it matches your style and the vibe that you want to give off. Play this when you are getting dressed, on the way to work and when you are using through midtown in those shoes that hurt your feet LOL !! ... etc. Watch how your confidence elevates and your moo shifts.

Have a Happy New Year! Bring it in with STYLE

The Luxury Hack

The Business of Consignment with Heather Jones Of @TSCD_

Heather Jones at Trunk Show Designer Consignment in Harlem

Heather Jones at Trunk Show Designer Consignment in Harlem

I recently stopped into Heather's consignment shop and tried on a pair of track pants, I asked her what she thought. She replied "Those are 'sneaky'!!!" LOL I said "sneaky???' LOL!  she says “My favorite fashion word is "sneaky" lol. It’s like when you try on something and you didn’t think it would be sexy; but then it hugs those curves. That’s sneaky! We love a sneaky piece at TSDC!”

STYLE: Ok, we need to be shopping for more of these pieces LOL! What are some of your favorites this season?

HJ: Men's cute skinny track pants. Fear Of God has amazing ones. High waisted vintage denim by GRL FRND & Levi as well as the 'Boxy' blazer.

STYLE: Thanks so much for that list "H". Tell us about your fashion experience and what lead you to the business of consignment.

HJ: I have a degree in Fashion Marketing & Merchandising. I've worked in a number of different facades of the fashion industry ranging from model booking to business consulting. I am a fashion stylist as well. I work with personal clients as well celebrities. I have also been assisting clients in selling their high-end goods for about 7 years. I have owned my boutique for just 5.

STYLE: We think consignment is one of the best luxury shopping hacks. However, it used to have a negative connotation. People would shop discretely because of the stigma of shopping for used items. What do you think has changed?

HJ: Yes, it has changed considerably. I think with the surge of off-price department stores, websites like Guilt, helped consignment become more accepted. Also, the fact that fashion is ever-evolving and finding the means of affording those wardrobe upgrades. Consignment is a vessel for many fashion enthusiast. Therefore it is no longer taboo. Besides, not all consignment merchandise is used. Some things are new, out of season pieces that were missed the first time around. A lot of limited editions and sample pieces make their way into our market. Pieces that may no longer available at retail. Consumers have become more savy making full use of consigning creating additional income by selling their unwanted items on consignment. This surplus cash can be used to invest in wardrobe upgrades and other expenses. I think luxury consumers these days really appreciate that aspect of the consignment business.

STYLE: What are some tips for new consignment shoppers?

HJ: Each consignment store is very different. As an avid shopper, as well as founder of my own consignment shop, I've come to realized this. You'll find shops that cater to an older demographic, selling more formal and conservative pieces - to shops that deal specifically with eclectic and more costume items. Shops like mine that offer a wide range of merchandise including super high end to mid-tier labels for consumer of every age. It is best to do your research on what type of merchandise each store carries before visiting their location.

STYLE: How do you select the merchandise for your location?

HJ: I truly follow the fashion zeitgeist when buying. I have an extremely diverse clientele ranging from college students to middle aged fashion enthusiasts - both male and female. You can only imagine how difficult it is to appease them all. I have to stay in- tune on product knowledge as well as the ability to forecast trends. I think I've done a great job with that at Trunk Show Designer Consignment. I offer a wide selection of merchandise. My item selection ranges from current items sold at luxury retailers; to more novelty or unique pieces that are trendy but, a few years older. I think most of customers appreciate my "eye" and I believe that translates through the hip and trendy vibe of my shop.

STYLE: What made you decide on a physical location rather than online?

HJ: It was not until VERY recently that I adjusted to shopping online. I am more of a hands-on shopper. I enjoy that tangible aspect of making a purchase in an actual store. I like to feel fabrics, check lighting, and simply try things on. Although e-commerce is a really booming business, I think creating an atmosphere for shopping luxury consignment has given me leverage in the industry. I feel the option of an in-store experience is all well appreciated by my customers. Additionally, it has given me the opportunity to actually meet the wonderful people who support me and my business. This is really important for me as an entrepreneur.

STYLE: Describe the TSDC shopping experience.

HJ: We also offer personal shopping services, styling advisement, and closet overhaul services to our clients as additional services under our consignment business. I am super hands on with every aspect of my business. I try handle every single consignment appointment personally, and make an effort to sell every single item myself. It helps me understand people and consumers in general. Everyone has their individual fashion needs. When shopping with me, I really take the time out to understand. I want to be clear on what my customers are looking for and try to fulfill that. Whether its purchasing their first designer handbag, or investing a new pair of fall boots, I try to make sure that every purchase is the perfect fit for the buyer. It's more than just making a sale, its building relationships and creating a "quasi" personal stylist experience. I want clients to know that Trunk Show Designer Consignment has taken time to fulfill their needs.

STYLE: Where do you see your business in the next 3 years?

HJ: I initially started my business in Harlem, I grew up here and I wanted to cater to the fashion void in my community.  As I develop my brand and expertise I feel the demand for my services are growing. I am considering a more showroom style space in another part of NYC. (to-be-determined).  I want to really focus on the online business as it contributes to about 70% of our sales at this current moment. We will be creating a more savvy e-commerce site to accommodate the demand. Our new showroom will focus on the services that we offer -exclusively by appointment.

STYLE: What Luxury Hacks can you offer our readers?

HJ: 1) Wait for the sales, if you can. Almost all designer merchandise goes on sale. However, some items will sell out indefinitely, so learn to decipher what you should wait for and what you should jump on asap.

2) Know what to invest in. With fast fashion, luxury consumers are mixing and matching high-low priced pieces to create an ultra luxe look. I'd say always invest in designer handbags, blazers, coats/jackets, and shoes. You can find great deals on these wardrobe essentials at sample sales or shopping consignment of course.

3) Don't cheat yourself, treat yourself. This goes back to my previous hack. Some of my customers will try to psych themselves out of investing in a classic silk Prada blouse sold at my shop for $100, for a chiffon version for $40 at H&M that won't survive the fashion cycle beyond the next 2 years. As you begin to build your wardrobe you want to increase  longevity in the pieces that you buy. Look out for amazing silhouettes and fabrics, and don't be afraid to add a little extra cash to your shopping budget to make those things attainable.  Invest in well made designer classics so that they will carry you through the years.

Thank you Heather for chatting with us. Xo!

frontrow Pop-Up in Harlem

Labor Day weekend is the official pre-season.  The start to transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall. Befitting the change in season and the start to Fashion Week, luxury clothing line frontrow popped-up in Harlem. This is their second stop on their BarTour.  A 5 city POP-UP shop series. The LA based brand brought in extremely dope transnational pieces.

Signature T-shirts with logo's and tag lines like "Phenomenal Woman" and "Private Society" honestly they read more like life hacks than tag lines. Very cool.  They also released their ultra skinny Denim, distressed and boyfriend cut ankle jeans - They all really hug the curves.

Designer in frontrow

I absolutely love the core pieces from the line. Consisting of french knit fabrics for hoodies, sweat shirts, sweat pants, dresses and crop tops (which come in reversal-able).

This collection is new and refreshing. We haven't seen these cuts or designs before. As we know frontrow has been known for its luxury...including premium leathers, furs, and silks. This collection had just two leather pieces. The element of luxury is still present in the brand however, the fabrics and price points make the line more attainable and relates to a larger group of shoppers. We chatted with frontrow designer Shateria Moragne-EL about the new collection, she explains "My leathers and furs ... "yea I'll still design those on a custom basis. But, this is the vibe of frontrow. This is our signature. This is what our brand is. If frontrow was a Spice Girl- she would be " Sporty Spice!"  check out the collection online www.frontrowinc.com

Vintage Levi's

Levi jeans. An American staple, the first Denim brand created and the love has yet to fade. Standing the test on the ever changing fashion times. The line keeps coming back with new styles , washes and fabrication blends. Even in it's recreation, it's a coveted must have item. As with the distressed denim addiction to snag a perfect Levi is a fashion win for every "It" Girl. Retailers are stocking their shelves with Levi's that have been re-done, creating more unique washing embellishments and to something old making it new all over again. The denim trend has been incorporated in some way during every fashion trend era. These times are no different as millennials become comfortable with classic fits and mom & dad jean styles. Levi is a "Go To" in achieving the look. Hunting through vintage shops and salvation armies? Pillaging through rummage sale hoping to score? Lucky for you, we found selections at Urban Outfitters! But believe me, it was no easy task. After over a week of running store to store, trying on fit after fit, 4 stores in 2 different states, trying on at least 50 jeans, we found 2 great fits with the wash and distressing we loved.

Here are some tips that will help you find the perfect Levi for you!

Fit: Located on the back tab of every Levi label is the fit number. Once you know your number, you have 50% of the task complete. As you know, with denim it's all about the fit. The link below will explain.

Wash: The wash-in denim can make or break your look. Choose wisely my friends... (hint: stonewash/ acid is not a fashion fave!)

Price points: Pricing really varies... I have seen ranges from $5.00 at a second hand shop to $200 at a luxury retailer. Base your shopping on your budget! How much do you want to spend on a pair of shorts? That question will be answered differently from someone in LA and someone in NY. But no need to panic! There will always be a way to achieve the perfect denim look within reasonable prices!

Style Watch S/S 17

We get so many humbling compliments about our Instagram content. We try and make sure we level up as we move forward to continue to entice your creative mind and influence your style. We, like you pull inspiration from so many stylish Instagrammers. We love to watch a trend go from runway and remixed into the wardrobe of taste makers. Her are just a few of our favorites. In no particular order. They are all equally fly for different reasons. See why they are the ones to watch.

Zerina Akers- Celebrity Stylist

Zerika style is sooooo bomb. As you can see above - it's all her own. As a celebrity stylist she created amazing head turning looks for the one of the biggest artist in the world. Looks that created trend after trend for the masses.  But, for herself as you can see her personal style is also wild creative. She certainly rocks the trending luxury items however, she does in ways that no one else has. She's refreshing and inspiring. We love watching Zerika.

Heather Jones - TSDC OWNER

How many ways do we love Heather? LOL! ahhhh way too many. I first noticed Heather's bobbed haircut with super short bangs, wondering how did she ever pull that off? As I got more into her style, I realized it's simply Heather (insert shrugging emoji) - like her TomBoy- carefree vibe fused with understated sex appeal ( points to her stiletto collection). Heather's esthetic is  flawless. She can do no wrong because her style is her very own.

Amirah Richelle - Image Consultant / Creative Director

Meet Amirah! My vibe mirror. I seriously go to her page to see if my look of the day- feels like her vibe. Seriously chill and effortless. This girl mixes feminine with masculine like no other. I have never asked what brand makes this or that. When there is great style labels are the least of the concern. It's more about how to duplicate the energy the look exudes. Uber Creative. We love it!

Chrysty G- Hairstylist at ABC network

We love so much about Christina's style. She does it all from Tom Boy Chic, Glam, Casual Street style, etc.  Her versatility does it for me. Always looking like a girl on the move - her Instagram will make you excited to see what look and adventure is up next.

Kara Chin

We love Kara's clean looks. Her style is very sophisticated, not too trendy and not too classic. She offers the perfect balance. She has a great eye for pieces that a person would leave behind because they wouldn't know how to pull the look off. Those are the pieces that Kara slays and we love it.

Dr. Cee

Dr. Cee is not your average professor. Clad in Gucci and red bottoms this stylish IT Engineer looks nothing like any computer geek that I have ever seen. LOL! I love that she shows her hard work and education is the source of her financial success. Dr. Cee is living luxe and working hard with no booking info in her bio.

Shaquanna Willams

We discovered Shaquanna during her 'Bride Hive' Bridal shower campaign. As social media flocked to her page to find out "who is that girl?" We also fell in love with her amazing style. Effortless and sexy she pulls off a calm and cool vibe in her images. She clearly has a signature style and she definitely has the "It" factor.

Kesha McLeod- Stylist

Kesha's Instagram used to be full of images of her work with her athlete and celebrity clients. These days you can see Kesha upfront displaying her greatest talent. Her style and she is  own muse. Every look is a hit as Kesha has so much inspiration and style direction from her years of working in fashion from Europe to NYC. The influences are clear and the execution is dope,

Shateria Monagne-El - Artist/Creative Influencer/ Designer

Shateria recently launched a personal fashion lifestyle blog. www.shateriam.com . Since then she has started a new creative direction. We obviously love Shateria's sense of style. But, now its all about  her highly curated images - effortless street style creative, perfect candids and amazing photography. Those elements make a big difference between a good and great image.

samy jo valentine-Blogger

I love seeing her come across my time line. She has so much fun showing off her looks. Dancing and prancing in her high and low fashion. She doesn't take herself too seriously but, her style is definitely serious!

Tasheema Felder-stylist

Tasheema is like Bad Boy music in the 90's. That element of hip-hop style and swagger. She dresses like the coolest girl that everyone wants to sit with. #StyleApproved

kash styles - image consultant

Just discovered her Instagram account. I love how she pulls off editorial inspired looks as well as chic dress down - as seen above.  Her page has loads of style inspiration.

Ri Miller - women's coat designer

Ri has great style. She is clearly a label lover, however she dosen't allow them to define her style. Her esthetic is very Paris meets NYC. Understated with a bold highlights, creating that "It" factor that we love.

We first saw the remix done by Kim K. I must admit I wondered how this look could work on a non-celebrity. After creating a few mood boards- i became so inspired and really get how the look makes sense. We never want to be a full "Tom Girl" and how boring is the girl running errands in gym gear with no intentions on ever working out. LOL! The jig has been up on that vibe. LOL!  so take a look at the looks we created with similar elements.  I hope that you're inspired. :-)
