It was a cool fall afternoon in New York. I began prepping for my interview with Nichole. She had recently launched her signature clothing line Nichole Lynel. Where she is the Head Designer and curator of her own online boutique. Nichole had once partnered on a similar venture but, decided to take this journey solo. Stepping out on her own and being welcomed by the fashion community and women in search for fashion, style, and great quality pieces. Nicole hadn't missed a beat. I facedtimed Nicole for our interview. Her screen opened up to a 1200 ft newly leased workspace in one of the most luxurious buildings in Downtown LA. There were mounds of clothing deleveries being processed, merchandise being prepped, photographers and assistants everywhere. It almost mirrored the "run through scene" on the Devil Wear Prada movie. Nicole excused herself and our interview began.
STYLE: How did you know that fashion was "It" for you?
NL: I was five years old and my cousin gave me Chanel Paper Dolls for Christmas. She told me I had an eye for fashion & beauty. That is one of the biggest moments in my life. These dolls had the most beautiful outfits and lifestyles. I said to myself this will be my life.
STYLE: What were some challenges that you faced on your road to success?
NL: I would say listening to myself was the most challenging part. I grew up in an old school home. My creative side was encouraged but not seen as a career path. That created an internal struggle which I carried with me for far too long. I've always wanted to be successful and knew I had a purpose, but finding what that meant was a grueling process. Life has so many lessons. I've always known where I wanted to be. I just listened to everyone but myself about how I should get there and it never felt right. I've had every job and always felt so empty until now.
STYLE: What is your IT factor as a buyer/designer? Why do you think clients come to you?
NL: Bringing out a women's Je Ne Sais Quoi! It's something that magically happens when you look good. It makes you feel good and then boom you move and carry yourself a certain way. I love creating amazing silhouettes. I absolutely love developing looks that emphasize effortless beauty.
STYLE: Where do you see you brand in the next 3 years ?
NL: I truly have that voice in my head that tells me "If you build it, they will come". I will be the effortless glamour go to brand. I am really aiming to make this a household name.
STYLE: What inspired your clothing line?
NL: From the day to day routines, to films, music videos where women were glamorous and sexy. I have tons of fashion moments! Diana Ross dancing in Central Park in the red sequin jumpsuit, Sade on the roof in black and white, the excuse me miss video. Then also watching my mom get ready for work as a child. Her red lipstick, the highest heels, Chanel nail polish and perfume. This collection of memories keeps me inspired and is what I want to create for my fierce fashionistas.
STYLE: How did you come to speak on panels?
NL: I always get questions about how to do things. So I created a course 'Boss Chick 101'. It was designed to travel the country teaching women how to build a beautiful brand. After that, I started attending events and was honored at one so I was asked to speak. That one chance opened the door for me to become a paid speaker. I hit the ground running and have been booked ever since.

NL:Bold colored furs. Rhinestones. Metallic makeup and leather blazers!
STYLE: Describe your personal style. What is your "It" factor?
NL: My personal style could be described as girly glam with an edge. I'm a Gemini, it's really, however, I wake up! Some days I'm a glitter princess and other days I'm a minimalist. My it thing is dressing for my shape. That's my secret weapon, I know what looks good on me.
STYLE: What are 5 things in your closet that you absolutely swoon over?
NL: Today it's my first collection. I'm dying to wear the full fur hoodie. I'm still drooling over my rhinestone men's shirt. "It' Girl Nichole
Nichole and I had a social media vibe right away. However, thats usually only a part of a person. I asked around about her and even asked her to meet up with a colleague of mine for a last minute dinner. It wasn't a test at all but, she would have passed with flying colors. Everyone shared the same sentiments and would squeal. " Omg, she is the sweetest, girl!!” Anyone with a smile like that, a business like this, and a word of mouth to match is an "It" Girl by our standards. She is also especially funny. I never know what she is going to say. Always something hilarious and unexpected LOL! As you can tell... I like the chick and here is a few reasons why we named her an "It" Girl. (Interview cont.) - Pe'a
STYLE: I hear so often Nichole is super nice. How hard is it to maintain your personality while Bossing-Up?
NL: That is so funny. I get that all the time. I have been through some very harsh situations in life. There is enough harsh in the world. I decided a long time ago, I was going to be myself. I like smiling and being nice. It had so much to do with me and no one else. It is extremely hard because, for some reason, people believe that I'm weak and they try me, lol. Nice doesn't mean dumb at all. I would rather bow out gracefully than fly off the handle and say things that people will never forget. I believe I am covered and truly blessed because I'd rather be the one who smiled than the one who didn't smile back.
STYLE: Can you give us some inspirational words for those girls on their "Quest for IT?"
NL: I love to ask myself questions. Always ask yourself " Would I put up with this if I had my stuff together?" That job, that man, that wardrobe... So let's get it together! Who are you, love? If you aren't happy with any of the answers, decide who you want to be. What will IT TAKE? Now, Let's break it down. Do you need to wake up an hour earlier to go to the gym or work on your brand? Do you need to attend the event to find your tribe? Whatever it takes, do that. The best bet I have ever made has been on myself. So what are you going to do to make IT happen?
