MELANIE MARIE INTERVIEW
Melanie Marie in MM Showstopper Crossbody
When did you start MM and why?
I started MM 5 1/2 years ago. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to have my own business. I didn't see the value in working for someone else making them rich with no growth for yourself. So I decided to create my own business and work for myself.
Did you forsee its success?
I always set goals for myself and work at them until I accomplish them. So I knew MM would be a success. I knew people would love my products. I had the drive and motivation to make it a success.
What makes MM different from other accessory/jewelry brands?
MM is different because it encompasses much more than just jewelry and accessories. Here at MM we mentor, offer business opportunities to others and business advice for start ups. We started a mentor program called Melanie Marie Gems & Jewels. We visit schools, community centers and group homes and talk to girls to offer advice, motivation and much more.
Why do celebs love your pieces?
Celebrity Stylist Misa Hilton in MM collection
Custom MM for Roc Nation Lenny S.
I believe celebs love MM pieces because we can customize anything and offer them a long standing product placement of they like them. The products are cute, durable and make a statement. We have made custom items for Celebs such as album names, logos, pictures into jewelry and more!
Where do you see your brand in 3 years?
In three years, I would love to have done more partnerships with different brands in place. Maybe some collabs with artists or other brands. I want to have done more events as well!
I definitely want to get more retail partnerships. I love having items in stores so people all over the world can get MM!
Samaria Leah in Custom MM
I do have a brand ambassador program already. I have some girls that participate and it is going well. It is a great way to get the MM brand more exposure and to get the girls some extra cash in their pockets.
Who is your muse? Who do you have in mind when you market your pieces?
My inspiration muse is the fashionable female that everyone wants to know. She has all the best clothes and accessories. She is always on top of the fashion game. I come up with pieces thinking "what would this fashionista want?"
If you could design an ideal piece what celebrity would it be for/ what would be special about it and why?
If I could design an ideal piece I would want them to be for both Solange and Beyonce. I love Solange's style and the way she is so free when she expresses herself. Beyonce is simply my all time favorite! It would be special because it would be a unique one of a kind piece. It would be a crazy statement piece that catches everyone's eye when they walk in the room.
What would be your ideal collaboration?
Beyoncex Jennifer Fisher
My ideal collaboration would be with Jennifer Fisher. She is dope and I love all of her pieces!
What are your top "IT" pieces right now from your collection? Like a girls gotta have
My "IT" pieces are the Rep your state necklaces and the Diamond initial rings! These two pieces are definite favorites and I love them!
